Chairman Price Statement on October Jobs Report

Washington, D.C. – House Republican Policy Committee Chairman Tom Price, M.D. (R-GA) responded to today’s release of the October 2012 jobs report by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, saying:

“Today brought more disappointing economic news for the American people. After trillions wasted on failed stimulus projects, a takeover of our health care system and preferential industry bailouts, all President Obama has to show for it is $16 trillion in national debt, $5.5 trillion of which came from just four years of his failed leadership. At this point, the American people are no longer surprised by the failure of the president’s policies. They are disappointed and fed up.

“House Republicans understand just how dire our economic outlook is. We have passed more than 30 jobs bills that would help stabilize and grow our economy, getting more Americans back to work, increasing their take-home pay and reducing the cost of living. We have implored time and time again for the White House and the Democrat-controlled Senate to work with us, but we are met each and every time with stonewalling and veto threats.

“At this rate, America’s workforce will not reach full employment until 2025. And with the refusal of President Obama and Senate Democrats to do what’s necessary to help boost the economy, we can only assume they wonder, ‘What’s the rush?’

“In times of distress, Americans of all walks of life come together to make things right. With our economy in distress, the president ought to be leading and coming to the table with fresh ideas to solve these challenges.”
