Rep. Kissell Attends Richmond County Greenwing Fishing Event

HOFFMAN, NC – Rep. Larry Kissell (NC-08) visited with folks at the Richmond County Greenwing Fishing event Saturday at McKinney Lake Fish Hatchery.

This was the 5th annual event put on by the Richmond County Chapter of Ducks Unlimited with the help of the NC Wildlife Commission and McKinney Lake Fish Hatchery. While it was mainly a fishing event, other attractions included the NC Wildlife Commission’s ‘BB’ gun trailer, a demonstration of duck trapping with a rocket net, Sundog Kennel retriever demonstrations, and a fire truck.

“Richmond County’s Ducks Unlimited chapter does a great job of getting kids out and entertaining and educating them with all these activities,” said Kissell. “It’s important to teach our kids about gun safety as was demonstrated at the BB gun trailer, and to get them comfortable with and knowledgeable in the outdoors. As a member of the Congressional Sportsman Caucus, I always enjoy casting a line and it was great to be out here with these kids and to spend time with the next generation of our region's sportsmen.”

Gary Payne of the Richmond County Chapter of Ducks Unlimited highlighted the events of the day and thanked Kissell for his visit.

“We do this annual event for the children ages 0-17 in collaboration with the NC Wildlife Commission and McKinney Lake Fish Hatchery,” said Payne. “We do it to benefit the children; we give them a rod and reel which is theirs to take home along with a duck call, and it’s also just to get them outside and to appreciate the outdoors. We do it in conjunction with the National Day of Hunting and Fishing every third Saturday in September since we, as a chapter of Ducks Unlimited, are conservationists but also hunters and fishers. We want to introduce the kids to the outdoors since so many things these days keep them inside. This year 85 kids came out which was a great success. I’m glad Congressman Kissell was able to stop by. He is a big supporter of conservation and hunters and I really appreciate him taking the time to come by.”
