Rep. Kissell Announces Federal Investment in North Carolina Mega Park

TROY, NC – Today, Rep. Larry Kissell (NC-08) announced that Heart of North Carolina MegaPark, Inc. will receive an Economic Development Administration investment award of $100,000 to help fund a feasibility study and a master site plan for the proposed industrial park in Montgomery and Moore counties.

The study is designed to help define the future of the region’s economic development plans. When completed, the Mega Park will be a 3,000-acre industrial complex located in both Montgomery and Moore counties and will serve the greater region. Businesses interested in locating there may be eligible receive a $12,500 tax credit per new job and a 7 percent tax credit for investment in personal property, according to the N.C. Department of Commerce’s designation of the region.

“Bringing our tax dollars back home to recruit businesses and create jobs represents exactly the kind of investment we need to make to help with local growth and development, and I’m glad to see this important investment being made,” said Kissell. “Our economic recovery will hinge on all of us working at every level to create an environment for businesses to be successful, and this project is one way to do that. Located here in the heart of central North Carolina, the park will serve as a great resource for markets throughout our state and our region, and will help attract businesses that might not originally think to expand to our part of the world. This site will greatly benefit counties in and around our district, and I am excited to see the project unfold with the help of this investment.”

Ashley Sherrill, of the Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation, touched on the benefits this investment will provide as they work to bring this project to fruition.

“This investment is a great opportunity and a great step towards creating valuable economic development and jobs for this area, that are much needed,” said Sherrill. “Planning is critical for us to be able to market, sell, and get a focus on the park. This investment helps bring all the hard work done thus far into focus and we can now begin to narrow down the scope and see more clearly what it will be for the surrounding area.”

Moore County Partners in Progress Executive Director Patrick Corso expressed his excitement for the grant, and highlighted what it will help bring to Moore and Montgomery counties.

“Partners in Progress is thrilled to receive such great news,” said Corso. “This grant will allow us to proceed with the next steps in making the Heart of North Carolina MegaPark a reality, creating great opportunity for the people of Moore, Montgomery and the surrounding counties.”
