MAXTON, NC – Representative Larry Kissell (NC-08) joined workers and local officials at the Watts Solar Farm in Maxton for Strata Solar’s “Last Panel” celebration, held last week. Strata Solar, a solar energy provider, is completing two 45-acre solar farms in Maxton and Rowland, and has hired more than 120 installers from around the region to help complete the project, including Robeson and Scotland counties.
Kissell joined the installation workers, elected officials, and officials from Strata Solar to tour the Maxton project and discuss ongoing efforts in the region to pursue alternative sources of energy.
“Efforts like this have a two-fold impact on our communities—putting people to work constructing these solar farms, and helping to find new ways to power our homes and businesses,” Kissell said. “As we continue to pursue an all-of-the-above approach to cutting energy costs and establishing American energy independence, we can put folks back to work in the process. What’s going on here in Scotland and Robeson counties is a perfect example of local efforts to embrace the jobs of the future, and I’m proud to have been able to attend this event.”
Strata Solar has announced plans to begin construction later this month on two additional solar farms near Red Springs and St. Pauls. John Morrison, Chief Operating Officer of Strata Solar, updated officials on the progress of the projects and thanked Kissell for his interest in working with the company to help create local opportunities.
“The Watts Solar Farm is 6.4 megawatt facility that will provide energy to more than 600 homes across the region,” said Morrison. “We really appreciate Congressman Kissell meeting with the workers who have installed the panels and we look forward to bringing more to the area and working with Congressman Kissell.”
