Rep. Kissell Announces Funding to Hire Wadesboro Police Officer

WADESBORO, NC—Representative Larry Kissell (NC-08) announced Monday that the Wadesboro Police Department will soon receive funding to hire or rehire one additional law enforcement officer. The funding was secured through the Department of Justice’s Community Oriented Policing Services, or COPS, hiring program to assist local law enforcement and crime prevention efforts.

Total funding of $112,509 will be awarded to the department to be used over three years for an entry level salary and benefits for a newly-hired full-time sworn officer position, or for a rehired officer that has been laid off, or is scheduled to be laid off on a future date, as a result of local budget cuts.

“In these tough economic times, it’s important that we bring our tax dollars back home, to put people back to work and keep our area safe,” said Kissell. “While this grant will hire just one officer, that is one family here at home that will no longer be uncertain of where that next job will come from or how they will make a good living, and one extra pair of boots on the ground here at home. This officer’s service will keep our streets will be safe and benefit our community as a whole. I’m glad to have worked to secure this funding and will continue to push to bring our hard-earned tax dollars back home to be spent here locally and benefit our region.”

Wadesboro Police Chief Janie Schutz thanked Kissell for his continual support of police officers, and his open line of communication with the Wadesboro community.

“There has never been a time I have tried to call Congressman Kissell and he has not picked up,” said Schutz. “We are grateful for Congressman Kissell’s work for Wadesboro and the Wadesboro Police. We are very blessed to have a member of Congress who cares about the local community and will be there if you need him.”
