Rep. Kissell Welcomes Covenant Classical School Students to U.S. Capitol

WASHINGTON, DC –Representative Larry Kissell (NC-08) recently welcomed to the U.S. Capitol a group of 5th and 6th grade students from Covenant Classical School in Concord, along with teachers and parents of the students. The students took a tour of the Capitol building as part of their trip to Washington.

“It is wonderful to spend time with young people and see the enthusiasm and interest they have in government and the history of our nation,” said Kissell. “As a retired Civics teacher, there’s no better reward than seeing students engaged and interested in what our founding fathers created. I thank the parents and staff of Covenant Classical for their hard work in ensuring that these students have a safe and educational visit to our nation’s capital.”

DeAnne Hobbs, a parent and chaperone on the trip from Concord, said that students from the school have visited Washington every other year, and as a tradition they recite from memory the Gettysburg Address while at the Lincoln Memorial.

“The kids are just very excited to be here,” said Hobbs. “For them to meet Congressman Kissell is a huge deal. I am thrilled they were able to, and we appreciate the time he spent with us.”
