WADESBORO, NC- Representative Larry Kissell (NC-08) visited with students at Anson High School and Anson New Technology High School on Thursday. Kissell met with instructors and administrators and spoke to students about his work in Congress and the importance of young people being involved in their government and their communities.
“It is always uplifting to be in the classroom talking with students, and I greatly appreciate the opportunity to visit with students in Anson County, today,” said Kissell. “As a former schoolteacher, I know there is no greater reward than helping young people succeed, both in the classroom and in their lives beyond school. It’s good to spend time with students and teachers and see how hard they’re working to ensure the best future for the people of our area and our community as a whole.”
At Anson High, Kissell spoke to students in Doug Zywiol’s history classes. Students asked Kissell a range of questions covering his work in the district, as well as the legislative process in Washington. Zywiol thanked Kissell for the visit, and noted that his talk with students tied in with the lessons the class covered throughout the year.
“Congressman Kissell is one of North Carolina’s biggest advocates for educators and education,” said Zywiol. “It was great having him speak to seniors who learned all year about politics and government. The kids were really excited to meet someone who represents their views in Washington, D.C.”
Earlier in the day, Kissell visited Anson New Tech and met with faculty as students completed their end-of-grade examinations. Kissell spoke with Anson New Tech Principal Chris Stinson and Math teacher Blaine Maples about programs at the school and the work completed by the students throughout the year.
“It was great to visit with folks at Anson New Tech and know that the students there are hard at work in successfully completing their school year,” said Kissell. “It’s good to know that folks in Anson County are reaching in all directions to ensure that all students have an opportunity to get a good education and be successful. I look forward to coming back to Anson New Tech and meeting with students in the classroom.”
Maples thanked the Kissell for visiting the school and invited him to take part in future efforts to reach out to students and the community and highlight the work being done at the school.
“We really enjoyed having Congressman Kissell come and visit our school,” said Maples. “We want to have him back to sit on one of our presentation panels.”
