CONCORD, NC—Today, Representative Larry Kissell (NC-08) joined Vietnam Veterans, their families and North Carolina residents at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord for the Vietnam Veterans Homecoming Celebration. Thousands from around the state gathered at the Speedway to honor and celebrate those who served, and to welcome them home.
“On the behalf of the people of the 8th District, I am very proud to have this event here in Concord,” Kissell said. “This special welcome is long overdue. With more than 100,000 veterans and active duty military members living in our district, we are thrilled to welcome so many of our nation’s dedicated and brave heroes home, and thank them for all that they have done, and continue to do, to keep our nation safe and great.”
Earlier in the day, Kissell joined local veterans near his home in Montgomery County for a send-off of Vietnam veterans heading to the event in Concord. The caravan of veterans proceeded through Montgomery into Stanly and Cabarrus counties, with signs lining the streets along their journey.
“It is an incredible honor to join with my heroes here at home and send them off to a celebration of their service,” Kissell said. “This is an exciting day for these proud individuals and their families, who served our country so admirably.”
The Vietnam Veterans Homecoming Celebration featured military displays and salutes to commemorate the veterans. Veteran service organizations were also there to provide assistance to veterans with any concerns they have.
