Rep. Kissell Welcomes A.L. Brown High School Students to U.S. Capitol

WASHINGTON, DC – Representative Larry Kissell (NC-08) recently welcomed to the U.S. Capitol a group of 11th grade students from A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis, along with teachers and chaperones. The students took a tour of the Capitol building.

“It is wonderful to spend time with such a great group of young folks and see their enthusiasm for learning about their government and how it works,” said Kissell. “As a former schoolteacher, it’s rewarding to see students that are engaged and interested in government and current events. I commend the staff and chaperones of A.L. Brown High School for their hard work in providing these students with a safe and successful visit to Washington.”

Michael Hazeltine, A.L. Brown Social Studies teacher and organizer of the trip, said that students from the school have visited Washington annually since World War II, only missing one year since that time.

“More than 90 percent of the students we have on this trip have never been to Washington,” said Hazeltine. “When coming to Washington, the ideas that students read about in books come alive, and to meet with Representative Kissell, it makes a huge impact on the students.”
