Rep. Kissell Tours Kannapolis Construction Company's Green Building Project Site

Rep. Kissell Tours Kannapolis Construction Company's Green Building Project SiteKANNAPOLIS, NC – Representative Larry Kissell (NC-08) visited Kannapolis Construction Company’s green building project in Kannapolis this week. Kissell joined former Concord City Councilman Bill Cone, President of Kannapolis Construction Company, and his son and company Vice President, Brian Cone, to see their innovative project, Fairview Flex, an office building that is being constructed using green and reused energy-efficient materials. Kissell and Cone discussed the use of sustainable energy and the importance of local small businesses being successful in the current economy.

“It’s exciting to see this innovation happening right here in Kannapolis,” said Kissell. “This project is a perfect example of utilizing our local resources to provide a great way to stimulate economic activity, while also saving costs for businesses. I’m so impressed by the emphasis on building with local, reused materials—literally incorporating pieces of Cabarrus County’s history into our next chapter as a community. We need to continue to highlight projects like this one that can provide a much-needed boost to our economy, providing a unique opportunity for businesses in our area.”

Materials used in the building’s construction include wood originally used in Cannon Mills for the decking, salvaged metal that once covered the Coca-Cola sign in downtown Concord and old doors from Concord’s Fire Station #1. There is also a rainwater capture system, which is used for irrigation and as a water source for the building’s plumbing system.

“We are very pleased and appreciative that Congressman Kissell was able to take the time to come out and see what we’ve done with the site,” said Cone. “We’re a private business and we’re doing something that no one in Cabarrus County has done before. Our project is not government funded, but we’ve taken the initiative to incorporate sustainable features in our construction, including the water harvesting system which will help cut costs and water usage in the building. We were really impressed with Congressman Kissell’s interest in our project and are pleased to know of his support of the property and our efforts.”

The 4,200 square foot building will house four office leasing spaces. The project’s progress can be tracked on the property’s website, www.fairviewflex.com, where you can view photos and a virtual tour of the facility.

“Bill and Brian have done such a great job working to promote this building, and these innovations, throughout our area,” Kissell added. “Our local businesses in Cabarrus County have so much to offer, and I’m glad to see such a great idea come to life—assembled with pieces of our community.”
