HARRISBURG, NC - Representative Larry Kissell (NC-08) joined members of his Congressional Youth Council for a Day of Service in Harrisburg, helping families clean up from last weekend's tornado that damaged homes and left some families homeless.

Kissell, his staff and his Youth Council members joined Harrisburg Mayor Tim Hagler, Town Councilman Steve Sciascia, members of the Concord Youth Council and local church volunteers to assist homeowners in the cleanup of downed trees, tree limbs, and building materials left behind by the storm.

“I'm so glad to join the members of our Congressional Youth Council in being a part of this recovery.  It is clear that friends and neighbors are coming  together to help our community recover,” said Kissell. “In just the past week, there's been so much work done to help folks pick up the pieces and make sense of it all, and my office will continue to do everything we can to provide assistance to those who need it.”

Eighth District Congressional Youth Council Members were part of a team of 22 volunteers assembled by Kissell who assisted today. Mayor Hagler thanked Kissell and the team of volunteers for their efforts today, and recognized Kissell for his continued help throughout the storm’s aftermath.

“On behalf of the Town of Harrisburg, I cannot tell you enough just how much we appreciate this effort. I was so glad to join Congressman Kissell and Councilman Sciascia and all of the young people and staff that came out to help our families today,” said Hagler. “We've seen an outpouring of generosity from the people in our community, and today's efforts meant so much, especially to the older homeowners and their families who were overwhelmed with just so much to do in the wake of the storm. I'm glad to know that Congressman Kissell is looking out for us and is continuing to help as the community recovers.”

Kissell toured damaged neighborhoods in Harrisburg with Mayor Hagler in the hours following the storm last weekend, and earlier this week called on federal officials to assist with damage assessment and expedite any possible federal funding that the homeowners and area residents may be eligible for to rebuild.

“I'm so proud to see the continued spirit and resolve of this neighborhood, so thankful that no lives were lost,” added Kissell. “We'll rebuild these neighborhoods, with the help of folks like Mayor Hagler and these young people, and with all levels of government working together with the private sector.”
