LEXINGTON, NC – Representative Larry Kissell (NC-08) recently visited the campus of Davidson County Community College (DCCC), where he met with college officials to discuss regional efforts and toured the school's facilities, including the Advanced Manufacturing Center, with DCCC President Dr. Mary Rittling and Vice President for Academic Programs Jeannine Woody.
“Our region has faced tremendous losses in the manufacturing sector,” said Kissell. “I believe we must do everything we can to bring jobs back and rebuild our economy. Having worked in manufacturing for 27 years, it is exciting to see the advanced technology programs DCCC offers to help train local people in partnership with local business, helping to keep jobs here at home. I will do everything I can to support innovative initiatives that bring jobs back and strengthen our economy.”
DCCC features innovative programs through its transportation technology center, including a truck-driving simulation and an auto-industry technology program. In addition, the school offers an advanced manufacturing program that highlights automated machining and utilizes mobile computing technology as a tool for students.
“We are pleased to have Congressman Kissell here on campus to hear about our innovation and learn more about our work to adapt the curriculum and structure to meet the needs of the community,” said DCCC President Dr. Mary Rittling. “We see Congressman Kissell as a partner in future campus initiatives and thank him for taking the time to listen to our current needs and concerns.”
Kissell serves as Co-Chair of the House Textile Caucus along with Representative Howard Coble, which works to promote the American textile industry and supports legislation to protect domestic manufacturing.
