HAMLET, NC – Representative Larry Kissell (NC-08) heard from residents and business owners in Hamlet recently. Kissell talked to residents about the ongoing economic recovery of the region, as well hearing the concerns and needs of constituents and small business owners.
“I believe the solutions to our nation’s problems can best be found by listening to folks in our small towns and communities, those right here on Main Street,” said Kissell. “I make it a habit of taking back to Washington the advice and common sense that I hear on days like today.”
Kissell met with Bill Horne, owner of Birmingham Drug, a downtown Hamlet pharmacy that has served the community since 1906. The two discussed the many issues affecting small businesses, as well as the ongoing need for support and protection of community pharmacies, in light of the rise of larger chain stores.
“Small businesses are crucial to our local and regional economy,” added Kissell. “They have provided the goods and services and jobs that have kept our economy moving for so long. Whether providing our seniors or veterans with the prescription drugs they need or helping provide to folks from all walks of life with simple every day goods, it’s so important to stand up for our small pharmacies like Birmingham Drug and Mabry’s Drug and Home Care, and small businesses that have made our nation great.”
