Rep. Kissell Announces $4.9M HUD Grant for Regional Sustainability Effort

CONCORD, NC – Today, Representative Larry Kissell (NC-08) announced a $4.9 million U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grant for the Centralina Council of Governments to develop the CONNECT Vision, an effort to form a sustainable development plan throughout the region.

The Centralina Council of Governments includes Mecklenburg, Union, Cabarrus, Anson, Stanly, Rowan, Iredell, Lincoln and Gaston counties.

“I’m so proud to have fought to secure this important funding for our region, bringing more of our hard-earned tax dollars back home,” said Kissell. “This effort will help to better our communities, expand efforts to put folks back to work and improve the lives of the people throughout our part of the world. I’ll continue to work with the Centralina Council of Governments to promote regional partnerships for job creation.”

The goal of the plan will be reduced unemployment rates, reduced housing and transportation costs for families and support of economic and housing revitalization efforts in cities and towns throughout the region.

Earlier this month, Kissell joined the Centralina Council of Governments in also announcing the creation of a $1 million revolving loan fund, funded in part by a $800,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration that Kissell helped secure. The loan fund will support business development and job creation, providing loans at reasonable rates and terms that banks may not otherwise provide.
