CONCORD, NC - Congressman Larry Kissell joined members of his 8th District Congressional Youth Council this weekend to help complete a service project in Cabarrus County. Kissell and the Youth Council members assisted the Cabarrus Victims Assistance Network (CVAN) by helping with yard work at the group’s home for battered women and their children in Concord.
“These students have embraced the idea of service, and the work they completed today is just one small step in their plans to make their communities better,” said Kissell. “I created this Youth Council to help give our young folks a voice in what they want their government and communities to be. They’ve certainly responded to the opportunity, and selected this as one of many projects to help those in need, and our area as a whole. I was honored to join them, and look forward to helping with their work in the future.”
Kissell formed the Youth Council in 2010 to increase interest and participation in service through local, state and federal government among high school students. Young people from across the district are encouraged to submit applications for the Council, which are considered on a rolling basis.
Youth Council members from across Cabarrus, Union, Stanly, Anson and Montgomery counties worked together on the CVAN project. Students interested in joining the Youth Council can contact Kissell’s Concord office at 704-786-1612 or visit www.kissell.house.gov.
