Congressman Kissell Meets with Students

CONCORD, NC – Congressman Larry Kissell (NC-08) visited Cannon School in Concord earlier this week, holding a discussion with members of the Junior class and school officials. Kissell spoke with the class about his work in Congress and stressed the importance of continued youth involvement in government.

“It’s so important that our younger generation becomes and stays involved in the government process,” said Kissell. “They are the generation that will be taking over our country’s future. I believe that we must work to make sure that the generations that come after us have the opportunity of a better life than we did, and I know that these engaged students share that sentiment. Their commitment to service and involvement in our community is a sign of the true dedication to a quality education that is embodied here at Cannon School.”

A former High School civics teacher, Kissell took questions from the students and spoke about the usual day-to-day operations of a Congressional office, as well as his work in Washington and throughout the district. Many of the students in attendance are currently enrolled in U.S. government and civics classes at the school.

"We so much appreciated and enjoyed Congressman Kissell’s visit with the students,” said Matt Gossage, Head of School for Cannon School. “It's obvious he is still a teacher at heart. It was a genuine and authentic exchange between a man who cares about education in our state and nation, and students who are active and care about the future of our country."
