Kissell Announces On-the-Job Training Funds for North Carolina

(Stanly News & Press)

CONCORD — Congress-man Larry Kissell (NC-08) announced North Carolina will receive $3,142,366 in grant money through the Department of Labor’s On-The-Job Training National Emergency Grants.
This funding, which is part of the American Recovery and Reinvest-ment Act, will help North Carolina with the resources to get people back to work by creating training and job opportunities.
“It is important to get our people back to work,” Kissell said.
“Retraining workers and helping employers find the specialized skills they need to be successful is a critical component to growing our economy. This funding will help employers offset some of those costs associated with retraining and help our workers to develop the skills they need while being able to put food on their tables.”
North Carolina’s grant was part of $75 million worth of On-the-Job Train-ing National Emergency Grants awarded to 41 states, the District of Col-umbia and three federally recognized Native Ameri-can tribes announced by Department of Labor Secretary Hilda Solis Friday.
“Today’s grants will help dislocated workers across the country learn while they earn. For most that will mean not just employment, but also the chance to receive training that allows them to upgrade their skills,” Solis said.
“As our economic recovery takes hold, this investment presents a win-win scenario. After all, workers are not the only ones who benefit from the approach. On-the-job training programs also offer tremendous returns for employers who commit time and other resources to training and hiring employees.”
