Kissell rejects pay raise

(Stanly News & Press)
CONCORD — On Tuesday, Congressman Larry Kissell (NC-08) again re-jected a Congressional Pay Raise when he voted to block federal lawmakers from receiving an automatic pay increase for fiscal year 2011. Continuing his support of fiscal responsibility, Kissell was a cosponsor of H.R. 5146. The bill received large bipartisan support.
“It is completely irresponsible for Congress to even consider raising its own pay at a time when our American families continue to struggle finding work, putting food on their tables and paying their bills,” Kissell said.
“Congress has to step up and protect our hard-working families by tightening its own belt.”
One of Kissell’s first acts as Congressman was to join Congressman Ron Paul to block automatic pay raises for 2010 which also passed with bipartisan support. Kissell returned the 2009 cost of living pay increase to the U.S. Department of Treasury.
