Congressman Farr Calls for Immigration Reform in Response to Supreme Court's Rejection of Arizona's Law PDF Print

Washington, DC Congressman Sam Farr (D-Carmel) released the following statement on today’s Supreme Court decision striking down key provisions of the controversial Arizona immigration law:

“I am pleased the Supreme Court rejected most of Arizona’s immigration law as unconstitutional. However, I am disappointed the Court allowed the controversial so-called “show me your papers” provision to remain intact, as this could lead to racial profiling. No American citizen should live under a constant cloud of suspicion based on nothing more than their skin color.

“Today’s ruling further highlight’s the need for comprehensive immigration reform. Our broken system is a national problem that requires a national solution. We cannot rely on a patchwork of state laws to address the problem while Congress refuses to act. Instead, we must work together to enact immigration reform that is tough, fair and practical to fix our broken system.”
