Women's Health
Women's health is fundamental to our nation's health, and when women are healthier, so are our families and communities. Unfortunately, many women are subject to insurance company discrimination, have limited health care options, and face severe health disparities compared with men. The good news is that federal policy is making progress to fix these problems. Our nation’s new health reform law protects women from abusive insurance company practices, such as being charged more because of their gender or for having pregnancies or injuries from domestic violence count as “pre-existing conditions”.
I have also been working to ensure that women have access to the full range of choices they deserve when it comes to their health care. This includes access to contraception, maternity care, and safe abortion services for women who make the difficult decision to terminate a pregnancy.
And finally, I have supported legislation that will focus more of our resources on women’s health. Focusing on women’s health will help eliminate health disparities and ensure women are living healthier lives with lower health care costs.
