(May 7, 2012 -- Washington D.C.)  Congresswoman Shelley Berkley today welcomed Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar to Nevada as he flips the switch on a new solar power plant that will produce enough clean energy to power 9,000 homes.

 

"Turning Nevada sunshine into clean energy will help create jobs and lower energy costs for families and businesses in the Silver State," said Berkley.  "I welcome Secretary Salazar to Nevada to help celebrate the opening of our nation's first solar project built on public land and I applaud the commitment of the Obama Administration to investing in more solar, geothermal and other renewable forms of energy.  I look forward to seeing future projects like this new Enbridge plant that combine our vast federal lands with investments in clean energy that will create new business opportunities and Nevada jobs."

 

Secretary Salazar traveled to Nevada to help open the 50-megawatt Silver State North photovoltaic project near Primm.  The facility will generate enough solar energy to serve the needs of approximately 9,000 average Nevada homes annually.  Berkley has been a strong supporter of solar, geothermal and wind energy development in Nevada and has championed investments to create more clean energy jobs at home and across the nation.
