Nevada Delegation to Host Academy Information Day

Saturday March 31st at 6:00 P.M. inside Nicholas Horn Theatre @ CSN

(March 19, 2012 -- Washington, D.C.)  Senators Harry Reid and Dean Heller and Representatives Shelley Berkley, Joe Heck and Mark Amodei will jointly host this year’s Academy Information Session in Southern Nevada.  This annual event gives high school sophomores and juniors interested in a military education a chance to ask questions and learn about opportunities available at service academies in the United States.  The event is designed to help students learn about the enrollment, nomination and education processes involving the service academies.

"More than two decades ago, I started hosting an Academy Information Day, and I am so pleased these have become a tradition for the Nevada delegation. These events help young men and women in Nevada learn about the opportunities available to them," said Senator Reid. "Students who decide to attend a service academy are making an important and admirable commitment to their country and I invite all interested students to attend these sessions."

"Our nation’s service academies offer an incredible opportunity for young Nevadans to receive an elite education as they become our country’s future military leaders," said Senator Heller. "Having family that currently serve in the Armed Forces, I understand and truly appreciate the journey that these young men and women are about to embark upon. It is a privilege to be a part of this event."

"I commend all young Nevadans who are seeking to serve our nation in exchange for the opportunity to attend a Military Service Academy," said Congresswoman Berkley. "It is absolutely essential that those interested in earning an appointment to one of these outstanding institutions attend our upcoming academy night presentation. I wish each and every Nevadan seeking to apply to one of our nation’s Service Academies the very best as they pursue their dreams of becoming highly trained and educated officers in America’s Armed Forces. There is no higher calling for our nation."

"Academy night is a great way for interested students to learn about the service academy nominating process and I am proud to join with members of the delegation in hosting this event," said Congressman Heck. "As a member of the U.S. Army Reserves, I take very seriously the responsibility of recommending fine young men and women to our nation's service academies and look forward to meeting with this year's group of prospective students."

"As an Army ROTC alumnus and the father of a veteran, who is a Navy ROTC alumna, I value the educational opportunities provided by our armed forces, whether it's through the GI Bill or our outstanding service academies," said Congressman Amodei. "I am thrilled to join the Nevada delegation for Academy Day and look forwarding to meeting some of the best young people the Silver State has to offer as they consider this path to serving our country."
