Franken: Supreme Court Decisions Matter To Minnesota

Previews Themes Of SCOTUS Nomination Hearing

Friday, June 25, 2010  |  Legislative Session: 111th Congress, 2nd Session (2010)

Today, U.S. Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, previewed the issues he will raise in the upcoming Supreme Court confirmation hearings for Solicitor General Elena Kagan.

“I’m going to focus on how Solicitor General Kagan sees the decisions of the Supreme Court affecting the lives of Minnesotans,”
said Sen. Franken. “The Roberts court has consistently sided with corporate interests at the expense of working people, and that has real-world consequences for Minnesotans. I want to make sure that General Kagan appreciates that the actions of the court matter to all of us. ”

Sen. Franken also previewed some of the themes he will talk about at the hearing at his keynote address to the American Constitution Society. Video of Sen. Franken’s speech can be viewed
