Barrow Visits Lock and Dam, Pledges to Fight to Save Structure PDF Print

12_05_29_JB_at_Lock_and_DamCongressman John Barrow (GA-12) visited the New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam yesterday with officials from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce. Congressman Barrow toured the structure and spoke with Corps officials about the importance of the lock and dam to the region and pledged to work with them to repair and update the structure.

"Augusta commerce and recreation have developed around the deepened Savannah River ever since the lock and dam was built during the Great Depression," said Congressman Barrow. "Business leaders on both sides of the Savannah River agree that this project is vital for the economic stability of the CSRA. I'll do everything I can to make sure that local, state, and federal governments work together to make the upgrades necessary to protect the jobs that depend on the New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam."

"The New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam is a vital part of Metro Augusta's infrastructure. Thousands of jobs and production of billions of dollars worth of goods depend on the pool created by the project. It is imperative that the long-term future of this structure is secured through proper repair and maintenance," said Sue Parr, President & CEO of the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce.
