WASHINGTON – Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) released the following statement after the bipartisan Expedited Legislative Line-Item Veto and Rescissions Act of 2011 passed through the House Budget Committee earlier today:
“I thank my colleagues at the House Budget Committee, in particular Ranking Member Chris Van Hollen, for their leadership in advancing a common-sense deficit reduction tool. This is welcome news for hardworking taxpayers who deserve a government that doesn’t waste their money, and deserve leaders willing to work together to advance solutions. This bipartisan reform makes lawmakers more accountable for taxpayer dollars, and represents a step in the right direction for those who want to change the spending culture in Washington.”
The bipartisan bill was introduced by Chairman Ryan and Ranking Member Van Hollen (D-MD) last month. The proposal would help lawmakers target wasteful spending and reduce the deficit.
