Health Care

I recognize and share the growing frustrations with the sky-rocketing costs of health care, and agree that the current U.S. health system must be reformed. I support efforts to lower the number of uninsured Americans, increase access to health care, and maintain a dynamic and innovative health care system. A fundamental shift needs to be made to focus on preventative care. If we catch disease early and take preventative steps, the overall costs of health care will decline.

A vital issue Congress must consider is the growing number of uninsured individuals. Nationwide, there are an estimated 47 million uninsured Americans, which is an increase in 2.2 million in the past year. There are approximately 6.5 million uninsured individuals in the State of California. It is necessary to find ways to provide increased access to affordable health insurance.

Healthcare reform has quickly risen as one of the most complex and costly domestic issues facing Congress today. I look forward to working with my colleagues to discuss innovative solutions to healthcare reform, and I will continue to support legislation that will increase access to high quality, affordable health care for all Americans.
