Remembering Pearl Harbor

By Rep. Lynn Westmoreland

On this day 71 years ago, the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor was attacked by the nation of Japan in the early morning hours.  By the end of the day, more than 2,400 Americans were killed and four of our battleships had been sunk.  It was the largest attack on US soil by a foreign nation since the Revolutionary War and directly led to our country entering what would become World War II.

As we remember those who gave their lives on this day 71 years ago, Joan and I send our thoughts and prayers to all of those who have served or are currently serving in our nation’s armed services.  They are true American heroes.
