El Cajon — Congressman Duncan Hunter announced today that he will host an interactive public conference, titled San Diego and National Defense: Protecting our Future, on September 25 at UC San Diego from 7:30 AM PT to 10:30 AM PT.

The conference will incorporate breakout panels on topics relevant to national defense and the San Diego region, including but not limited to sequestration, acquisition, small business, housing and education.  Panels will be directed by business, industry and community leaders with a focus on the diverse set of challenges within each interest area.  Public participation is strongly encouraged.

“This conference is designed to bring together members of the public and community stakeholders who recognize the contribution of national defense to the San Diego region,” said Congressman Hunter.  “Not only will the economic impact of San Diego’s extensive network of military infrastructure and personnel be evaluated, but each panel will also work to identify solutions to challenges that exist today, as well as ways to ensure San Diego’s interests are protected for the future.

“I plan to take the challenges and solutions discussed at the conference back to my colleagues in Congress.  And I’m confident that since San Diego is at the forefront of national security, there will be no shortage of workable and effective ideas to incorporate in the national defense debate in the weeks, months and years ahead.”

Additional details are available on Congressman Hunter’s website (direct page link) and RSVPs are recommended.

There will also be a media opportunity before the start of the conference.  Please direct all inquiries regarding media participation to Joe Kasper at 202-225-5672.
