Events around the world, affects the United States and Missouri. From the security situation in the Middle East to the instability in Afghanistan and Pakistan, U.S. policy in these regions directly impacts all Missourians. We must meet pressing concerns, by strengthening relationships abroad, promoting human rights and ethics while decreasing U.S. dependence on foreign oil.

Our allies look to the U.S. to stand up for individual rights, and adhere to the rule of law.  We cannot expect our adversaries to adhere to these standards if we do not hold ourselves to them.

As member of the Foreign Affairs Committee as well as Chair of the Subcommittee on International Organizations, Human Rights, and Oversight Congressman Russ Carnahan has urged the U.S. to fully engage with our allies around the world, and utilize our membership in international organizations, such as the United Nations, to effectively advance U.S. interests around the world.

Congressman Carnahan has been troubled by past administrations' ‘go in alone' approach to solving international situations. The U.S. represents democracy at its best and serves as hope for many across the world. As the world's only super power the U.S. has a responsibility and ability to stand up for justice around the world.

Carnahan believes it is time for a new approach and new direction that includes the use of both military and diplomatic strategy.  We must meet pressing concerns, by strengthening relationships abroad, promoting human rights and ethics while decreasing U.S. dependence on foreign oil.

Missouri’s Third Congressional district is home to a culturally and ethnically rich constituency that has deep roots in countries around the world. Congressman Carnahan uses his position to advocate for issues important to his constituents.
