June 16, 2007: Men's Prostate Health Awareness Conference

Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in the United States. Statistics show that men live an average of almost 6 years less than women, and according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, all ten of the ten leading causes of death affect men at a higher percentage than women.

Congressman Burton understands how important it is that we give men and their families the tools to prevent and, if necessary, fight this type of cancer. He hosted a successful Men’s Health Summit on June 16, 2007 at the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis, providing public awareness to prostate cancer issues and showcasing diverse paths available for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment in order to.

Burton moderated a panel of experts in the field of Men’s Health including Dr. Michael O. Koch, Chairman of the Department of Urology at the Indiana University School of Medicine, exercise expert Deb Knapp of Fitness Trainers, LLC, Dr. Chris Sweeney, Prostate Cancer Oncologist at the Indiana University Simon Cancer Center, Dr.Faina Shtern, Instructor at the Harvard Medical School’s Department of Radiology and President and C.E.O. of AdMeTech, Dr. Noah Hahn, Assistant Professor, Department of Urology at the Indiana University School of Medicine, Dr. Dale Guyer, Medical Director at the Advanced Medical Center and Spa, and Dr. Samia Burton, Internist for Riverview Hospital.
