EDUCATION: Investing in education and America’s future
The best investment in America's standing in the world is education. As a nation, Congressman Russ Carnahan believes we must better prepare our children for the competitive global environment. Bold investments in education will help build the world-class education system that our economy needs and our children deserve.

Congressman Carnahan recognizes the importance of early childhood education and has consistently supported its expansion because it has been proven one of the best ways to improve child well-being as well as increase achievement and productivity.

Today far too many children are not sufficiently served by America’s public education system. Our high school graduation rates are dismal causing many not to be able to compete in this global economy. Congressman Carnahan is committed to raise student achievement and reduce existing achievement gaps.

Congressman Carnahan worked to ensure enactment of the America COMPETES Act, which passed with bipartisan support and was signed into law. The COMPETES Act strengthens our capacity for innovation through scientific research and improves math and science education with the aim of retaining the United States' role as a global economic leader.

As the cost of college surpasses Americans’ ability to pay, too many students are forced to take on high loan debt burdens. Congressman Carnahan believes Congress must fight to ensure higher education is affordable and accessible for all students. Upon completion of a degree, students should be able to repay loans without going into excessive debt. A well-trained workforce is key to a rebuilding our economy and middle class.
