Science and education have been vital to America's success, and they will be indispensable to our future.

Science and education have been vital to America's success, and they will be indispensable to our future. Senator Hutchison was instrumental in establishing The Academy of Medicine, Engineering and Science of Texas (TAMEST). Membership in TAMEST includes chancellors and presidents of our state's institutions of higher education, Nobel Laureates, and members of the National Academies. It is the centerpiece of Senator Hutchison's effort to support research and development and promote Texas as a science state. During her tenure in the U.S. Senate, Texas has moved from sixth to third in the nation in receipt of federal research and development expenditures. Senator Hutchison is a member of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, Ranking Member of the Space, Aeronautics and Related Sciences Subcommittee, and a member of the Senate Appropriations subcommittee that oversees education.
