Pence Commemorates Independence Day

Anderson, IN – U.S. Congressman Mike Pence issued the following statement in commemoration and celebration of July Fourth:

"July Fourth is a day of commemoration and celebration, and a day to reflect on our nation's independence and courageous step out from under the shadow of tyranny.

"It is a day to remember that our Founding Fathers took their bold stand in the face of immense opposition from the most powerful empire in the world and created a country established on freedom, the principle that 'all men are created equal' and that governments derive their 'just powers from the consent of the governed.'

"We owe a debt of gratitude to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in order to give birth to this nation as well as all of those who have done so since on behalf of these principles so we can remain free.

"As we celebrate with picnics and parades, let us not forget the rights Americans fought for years ago. They believed in the right to freedom of speech and religion. They believed in the inalienable right to life. And they believed that everyone had the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

"America is a nation of strength and fortitude; it is a nation full of brave men and women who risk their lives every day, at home and abroad, to fight for freedom.

"We are blessed to call this country our home. From the Pence family to your family: 'Let freedom ring on our nation's 236th anniversary of independence.'"
