5-31-2012 - Pence Supports Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act of 2012 PDF Print

Washington, DC – U.S. Congressman Mike Pence voted for the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act (PRENDA) of 2012 (H.R. 3541) today, a bill that prohibits sex-selective abortion, the coercion of sex-selective abortion, solicitation or acceptance of funds for sex-selective abortion, and the transportation of a woman into the country to obtain a sex-selective abortion. His statement follows:

"While abortion in any circumstance is heartbreaking, it is particularly horrific when a child is aborted on the basis of gender. The victims of sex-selective abortion are overwhelmingly female, and they are often later-term abortions.

"As a co-sponsor of this bill, I want to thank Rep. Trent Franks for his leadership in bringing this bill to the floor. The law currently does not prohibit sex-selective abortion in the United States, and it is time we put an end to this tragic form of violence. We must protect all innocent human life, regardless of gender."
