WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Joe Courtney today released the following statement after Japan announced that it is buying 42 F-35s with Pratt & Whitney engines as its new mainstay fighter:

“The announcement by Japan that they are purchasing F35s as the cornerstone of their fighter fleet is a victory for the men and women of Pratt & Whitney and Connecticut’s industrial base. As Pratt continues to ramp up production domestically, this additional work will stabilize the workforce in the years ahead. Last week, I met with the Japanese Ambassador to the United States, and urged one last time that they consider the F35 and its Pratt engines. I am pleased by our ally’s decision, which is good for us locally, and provides additionally security across east Asia.”
