Recovery Act

The Recovery Act and the stimulus money it provided helped Minnesota at a time when it needed it most: 98 percent of Minnesotans benefited from at least one of the tax cuts included in President Obama's stimulus package. Without it, Minnesota's budget deficit for fiscal years 2010 and 2011 would have been $5.3 billion instead of $2.7 billion.  Recovery Act funding is responsible for keeping or hiring nearly 7,000 teachers and education workers in this state.  Funding saved and created positions for over 250 police officers, firefighters, and public safety officers and 2,000 state employees who deliver social services for the unemployed, the sick, and the dispossessed.  Last year, Senator Franken spoke on the Senate floor to spotlight a few of the Minnesota projects funded by the Recovery Act.
