Safety Net Programs

All Minnesotans want to work for a living, but sometimes tough economic conditions make that difficult for families. That's why we need to maintain a strong safety net to help people when they lose their job through no fault of their own. When there are no jobs to be found, families still need to pay their rent and put food on the table. The unemployment insurance program and the COBRA health insurance subsidy are the heart of our nation's support system, and I've fought to extend these programs throughout this recession. As a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee I will fight to extend basic assistance for struggling families until our economy has made a full economic recovery.
