Internships

Please note we are currently accepting applications for Spring and Summer 2012 internships in the Capitol Hill and Timonium offices.

A congressional internship can be a unique and rewarding opportunity to introduce the right candidate to Congress, the legislative process and constituent casework. Interns in Congressman Ruppersberger's office play a vital role. We strive to provide all interns with a greater understanding of democracy and inspire them to continue government service in the future.

Most intern candidates are college students or recent graduates. Internships last for a 3-month period, based around the academic semesters. Both part-time and full-time internships are available in the Washington, DC, and Timonium, MD, offices. To achieve maximum benefit, most students devote at least 20 hours each week to the office. Some colleges and universities offer academic credit as part of Congressional internship programs and we are happy to accommodate these requests.

Duties
Interns play a critical role in helping the office function each day. Administrative tasks include answering telephones, processing mail, data-entry and stuffing envelopes. Interns also attend legislative briefings, committee hearings and community meetings. They also write briefs, conduct legislative research and draft correspondence.
