Sequestration

Because the Super Committee did not achieve its intended fiscal goals in 2012,
defense spending faces $500 billion in mandatory cuts beyond the $487 billion already in the pipeline, through the process of sequestration.  Unless Congress approves an alternative plan, the cuts that would result from sequestration would begin in January of 2013.

With drastic defense budget cuts looming, Congress must have an unwavering commitment to national security. As a member of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, I won’t allow short-sighted budget decisions to turn back a decade’s worth of work rebuilding our military in Florida and around the globe.
