Kristyn spent the last two years entertaining nursing home residents, visiting with seriously ill children, and collecting food for the Hawaii Food Bank.

    Senator Akaka meets with Tammy Duckworth, President Obama's nominee to be Assistant Secretary for Public and Intergovernmental Affairs for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Akaka will chair Duckworth's nomination hearing on Wednesday, April 1, 2009. Duckworth graduated from McKinley High School in 1985 and the University of Hawaii in 1989. She deployed to Iraq in 2004, was injured in a rocket propelled grenade attack on her helicopter, and recovered at Walter Reed Medical Center.
