Statement by Congressman Silvestre Reyes on the killing of the U.S. Ambassador to Libya, three U.S. Diplomats

Reyes' Floor Speech

Washington, D.C., Sep 12 - Congressman Silvestre Reyes (D-TX) today released the following statement regarding the killing of U.S. Ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, and three U.S. Diplomats:

"Today is a sad day for our nation as we reflect on the life, journey and commitment of U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens.  Ambassador Stevens and three other Americans were killed in Libya in an attack on the United States Consulate in Benghazi.

"These brave Americans, like so many other public servants, willingly undertook a difficult and dangerous mission when called upon by their country.  Their service and sacrifice reflect their unbounded dedication to our nation, and we join together with their families, friends, and colleagues to mourn this loss.  Ambassador Stevens did not just talk about making the world a better place; he took action, dedicating himself to bringing stability and peace to Libya and the region.

"Those who planned and executed the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi must be brought to justice, and I stand with President Obama as we continue to fight terrorism and defend American lives throughout the world."
