Petri-Grassley Letter to FCC Regarding LightSquared Plans

September 22, 2011

On September 22, 2011, Aviation Subcommittee Chairman Tom Petri and Senator Charles Grassley wrote to FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski addressing some key arguments put forth in the debate over LightSquared’s plan to employ a terrestrial network within the satellite band of radio spectrum and GPS interference issues associated with this plan.  Petri and Grassley urged the Commission to protect GPS.  Chairman Petri and the Committee intend to ensure that any plans by LightSquared do not threaten the reliability of GPS, which is critical to the safe and effective operations of the nation's aviation, maritime and other transportation systems.
