WASHINGTON - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) today urged President Obama to approve the State of Illinois’ appeal of his denial of a federal disaster declaration request for Gallatin, Randolph, Saline, Union and Williamson counties in Southern Illinois. The counties suffered extreme damage and seven people died due to severe storms and tornadoes on February 29 through March 2.
“State and federal personnel have continued to evaluate the situation in the region and are finding more serious structural impacts to buildings, resulting in higher recovery costs,” said Costello. “I urge the President to give the new damage assessments close consideration and approve Governor Quinn’s appeal.”
