WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that Southern Illinois University Carbondale has received a $299,992 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy. The funds will be used to test titanium carbide and titanium diboride as coatings to help prevent corrosion in Advanced Ultrasupercritical Coal-fired Boilers.
“SIUC’s work to advance the use of clean coal is well known, and projects such as this help fulfill the academic mission of the university while improving energy and economic efficiency,” said Costello, a senior member of the House Science, Space and Technology Committee. “I will continue to work to ensure that we adequately fund federal research and development programs.”
