Times Herald-Record: New Name for Post Office?

A bill Hayworth sponsored that passed the House last week would name the Monroe post office after a Monroe native who died in Ethiopia in 2003 while working undercover for the Central Intelligence Agency.

If approved by the Senate and signed by President Obama, the bill would designate the post office in the ShopRite Plaza on Route 17M as the "National Clandestine Service of the Central Intelligence Agency NCS Officer Gregg David Wenzel Memorial Post Office."

Wenzel, a 1987 Monroe-Woodbury High School graduate, was killed in a car crash in the Ethiopian capital. The federal government initially described him as a State Department political adviser to conceal his covert mission.

The CIA identified Wenzel as one of its spies in 2009, honoring him in a ceremony for 90 agents who have died in the line of duty since 1947.
