The Chronicle: A Veteran's Widow Thanks Nan Hayworth

To the Editor:

Had I not been the wife, and now the widow, of a Vietnam veteran, I would have been unaware there are numerous veterans' benefits claims still outstanding. That cold hard fact was brought to my attention when trying to resolve my husband's situation who died from Agent Orange complications.

Through the exceptional assistance of people like William G. Stratis, who deals with veterans, former POWs, Purple Heart recipients and their families, Barbara Guarnuccio, Deputy Director of the Orange County Veterans Service Agency, Karen Nappi,Veterans Specialist at the same office, Evelyn, Nancy and Melinda, also in that office, Kristen and Cheryl in Senator Larkin's office, Maureen Natrella in Congresswoman Nan Hayworth's office, and Congresswoman Hayworth, there is hope yet for recipients and their families. I don't think I have forgotten anyone. If I have, I do apologize.

These people are not only caring and compassionate, but take time to listen, interest to pursue, and effort to assist. They are tireless, determined, knowledgeable and proactive. In short, they not only wish to help, they make sure their assistance gets results. I have one more claim issue to be resolved, however, I have every confidence that with everything each individual has done and is continuing to do, it will be very soon.

I know how much every one I have dealt with has been tireless in working towards a conclusion. That has been shown, not just by their words, but by their actions. Merely saying "thank you" seems to fall so short in expressing how I feel. For that reason, I am writing a public note of appreciation to these people.

My heartfelt thanks,
Karen Monti
