WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Nan Hayworth seeks to recognize exemplary first-responders from New York’s 19th Congressional District with a Special Congressional Commendation for their sacrifices, contributions and dedication to public service.

Hayworth is accepting nominations for any member of local, state or federal emergency services personnel who have distinguished themselves for exceptional acts of bravery or service in 2011. All recommendations will be reviewed by members of Congresswoman Hayworth’s Congressional Homeland Security Advisory Committee and will be honored during a Congregational Commendation ceremony this spring.

“Our police, fire and EMS personnel put themselves at risk every day to serve their communities, and they deserve recognition for their courage, valor and service,” Hayworth said in the press release announcing the program.

The deadline to submit a letter of recommendation is Wednesday, Feb. 29. Submissions may be mailed to Kevin Byrne, a member of Hayworth’s district staff, at 268 Route 202, Somers, NY 10589 or by e-mail to Kevin.Byrne@mail.house.gov.
