Mid-Hudson News: Monroe Post Office Would be Named for Fallen CIA Agent in House-Passed Bill

Monroe post office would be named for fallen CIA agent in House-passed bill

WASHINGTON – Legislation to rename the Post Office on Route 17M in Monroe for fallen Central Intelligence Agency Officer Gregg David Wenzel has passed in the House of Representatives.

The bill was sponsored by Congresswoman Nan Hayworth.

Wenzel was born and raised in Monroe. He worked as a public defender in the state of Florida before centering the CIA.

Wenzel was killed in the line of duty on July 9, 2003 while working for the CIA’s National Clandestine Service in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

“When a man has given his life to protect our American liberties, honoring him through the tradition of naming a post office to honor his extraordinary service to our country is both fitting and inspiring,” said Hayworth.
