Mid-Hudson News: EPA Extends Five Year Review Deadline for Hudson River PCB Cleanup
Wednesday April 25, 2012
WASHINGTON – The EPA has extended by one month, to the end of May, the deadline for the five-year review of the PCB cleanup site in the Hudson River.
Congresswoman Nan Hayworth sought the extension on behalf of a consortium of Hudson Valley environmental groups. She said she would monitor the issue to “insist that the EPA devote as much time as necessary to performing an optimal five-year review, in order to achieve as complete a restoration as possible at the PCB cleanup site.”
Hayworth said she is “committed to protecting our environment and our beautiful, and essential river. Extending the review deadline will allow a more adequate amount of time to assess the progress to date and to determine what remains to be done.”
Residents of the Hudson Valley need to “feel confident that this great natural resource will be protected for generations to come,” she said.
