Badly wounded in Vietnam which caused serious injuries to his leg

America can never repay the debt it owes to our war veterans. These are the men and women who answered their nation’s call and put their lives on the line to secure our freedom and our way of life.

Recently I had the opportunity to present the Bronze Star to Anthony Sparaco who lives in the Farmingdale community. Mr. Sparaco served in Vietnam as a Radio/Telephone Operator in the United States Army. His unit came under repeated fire from the enemy and suffered heavy casualties. Mr. Sparaco was badly wounded by a grenade which caused serious injuries to his leg. At the time, Mr. Sparaco received the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster. However his former Commanding Officer believed that Mr. Sparaco deserved the Bronze Star and submitted the supporting documentation two years ago. I followed up with a statement of support and after all these years, Mr. Sparaco was awarded the Bronze Star.

It was my privilege to present Mr. Sparaco with the Bronze Star in a ceremony in my office attended by his wife. It is important to remember that we have outstanding patriots such as Anthony Sparaco living amongst us. We must always be thankful to them.
